Being sick. It happens and it sucks, but knowing when to play it smart and pull back is imperative. When you’re sick, your body is under stress fighting the illness. Likewise, exercise is a stress. So, if you add training stress to a system that’s working overtime to recover, you’re just asking to prolong feeling like 💩 And, if you need antibiotics, take them! No, they’re not amazing on your system, but neither is being the host to a variety of bacteria. So, get seen by a doctor, take your medication as instructed, and REST!! Let your body do what it needs to do and get better. Oh, and eat plenty of healthy nutrients, drink your water, and wait it out. Complaining about a few days out of the gym is futile and it doesn’t make you more hardcore to push through illness and end up worse. Just stupid. . Signs I use to tell me if I need to skip training: a fever, body aches, chills, and obviously a diagnosed illness that requires medication. And I honestly assess if a workout is going to make me feel worse. If you struggle with that question, the answer is probably YES - stay outta the gym and keep your germs to yourself 😘 #healthandwellness #ironforgedfitnessCongratulations to @muscleinsider for hitting this amazing benchmark! 10 years producing a solid magazine, even in a tech-heavy society. I’m thankful for making the ranks to have an article included in this issue, the best of the last 10 years 🙏 It’s an honour. Now, check it out to catch up on anything you might have missed... especially on how to NOT be a gym jerk. #10years #congratsOne of the most notable weight loss transformations we’ve been able to help with. Over 17 weeks, Zak lost 46 lbs, naturally, balancing shift work in law enforcement. It was an incredibly smooth process, never having to get dramatic with food or cardio. He was calm the whole time, and so positive the whole way - just goes to show how much mindset plays a role. Zak competed and while he didn’t get first callout, he nailed the process and looked great on stage. Now, with a proper reverse, he’ll be set up to maintain a great physique. Congratulations & thanks for letting us be part of this huge transformation! #ironforgedfitnessWant more cap to your shoulders? This is probably the best exercise you aren’t doing. I think DB side laterals is one of the hardest movements for ppl to learn correctly. There is usually a lot of swinging, leaning forward, shrugging, some sort of weird chicken wing movement, and leading with the hands. The medial delt is a small muscle surrounded by larger muscles that want to take over. This movement sometimes called crucifix cable laterals or cross body cable laterals makes it much more effective to work the medial delt. You can’t use momentum, the cable tension works the full range of motion, where with DBs the strength curve drops off. The biggest key to this if you want wide shoulders is use ankle straps around your wrists and not handles. The other cue for this movement is don’t think about lifting up. Think about your arms make a half circle. Start the movement by trying to push your hands down toward your knees then move them out as wide as you can. In your mind never think of moving in a straight line. The tension you will feel when done right will be like nothing you can achieve with any other lateral movement. Be prepared to feel humbled - you won’t be able to lift much weight at all. You will know you got it right when you hate me for telling you about it 😉 #shoulders #laterals #bewide #hugedelts #grow #findthepain #trainhard #trainsmart #progession #progressiveoverload #progressoverplacings #ironforged #bodybuilding #muscle

Cheating on the weight room
Once every four months, I spend a week “cheating” on the weight room. For this week, I transition back to the activity which originally brought me into the fitness world – group exercise. As mentioned in my bio, I found … Continue reading
