What better way to start off the week than with a day off work?? Sorry, I’m not bragging… maybe a little bit. Kyle and I have been on the go for months now, and in my (our) effort to learn to relax more, we decided to book a day off work to celebrate our accomplishments from competing this year as well as the start of our off-seasons. So, what did we do on our day off? Everything we love!
Training
We’re lucky to live so close to the original Powerhouse Gym, over in Detroit, MI. We’ve been a handful of times and always love it. So, when we had a full day open, this was an obvious choice to start our celebrations. The atmosphere is incredible at this gym, we know they have great leg equipment, and we knew we would be having some really great food that had to be used well. If you’re ever nearby, go to this gym! It’s grungy and in a pretty shady part of town, but all the people are so nice and friendly. If only we didn’t have to deal with the boarder…

The original Powerhouse gym is just a 10 minute drive across the border from us. If you think you’re big and fit, visit this gym for a reality check! The men here are all massive, and super friendly.

One of our favorite pieces of equipment at PowerHouse – the vertical leg press. They have at least 5 different leg press machines to target different angles.
Shopping
While we’re in the states, we like to take advantage and get as much shopping done as we can. And by shopping, I mostly mean food. And by food, I mostly mean junk food. LOL. There’s so much more variety of fun stuff in the states, so we stock up on everything that looks fun and different while we’re there.

Our haul from Target. we should probably be ashamed of this… but in all honesty, this stuff will last us a year, no lie. We still have a lot of junk food from our last shopping trip in February.
Eating
We had to refuel after training legs, and debated about where we wanted to eat. There weren’t too many tempting options around where we were shopping, but we decided it was time that I FINALLY tried something –
Yup, I had never had Krispy Kreme donuts until this trip. It didn’t disappoint, they were definitely different from our usual Tim Hortons variety.

My very first Krispy Kreme donut – a birthday cake batter donut. It was filled with white icing, and was amazing. I sampled a basic Krispy Kreme donut hole, so I also feel like I’ve now had the “famous” donut. And, I’m so pale 😦
After all the junk food I’d eaten over the weekend – there was plenty of celebrations which involved amazing food – I felt the need to sweat a little bit more. For the first time in years, I actually went to a BodyStep class! It felt great to move around and do a class without having to teach.
The rest of our night was spent getting organized to head back to reality at work. Packed meals, I needed to plan my playlists for my classes for the week, and fully unpack from our respective time out of town. It was a perfect way to celebrate and spend some relaxing time together doing what we love. I hope you all had a great weekend, even if it wasn’t a long one.
