A day in the life

I assume my interest in these types of posts comes from my psychology background. I’m intrigued by how other people live their life and get instantly sucked in. I think this is also why I love reality TV (yup, I said it). I know it’s not overly REAL, but that doesn’t matter to me. I try to figure out why people behave, act, and react the way they do in certain situations.

So, in light of that, I thought it was time to do one of my own “a day in the life” posts. Even though I don’t think anything I do is exceptional, it’s probably different enough to be interesting to someone out there (hopefully). If not, maybe it’s a little entertaining.  Day to day our schedule changes a little bit as some days I teach at the gym, but overall our weekly schedule stays pretty consistent. Workouts and rest days may get swapped a bit based on special events, but generally, our life is pretty structured.

4:15am – Alarm #1 (honestly alarm #2 as Kyle’s goes off 5 minutes earlier). I lay in bed and scroll through Facebook and Instagram while trying to figure out what day of the week it is.

4:20 – Alarm #2. I’ve figured out it’s Thursday, and I roll out of bed to get ready for the gym. We try to be fairly quiet so as not to wake the dogs up (they sleep in the basement). I attempt to look less zombie-like then have my pre-workout shake (BCAAs, glutamine, magnesium citrate, pre-workout, a little protein) and some food (rice cakes, peanut butter, and half a banana usually).

4:50 – Leave for the gym.

5:00 – 6:30 – Train shoulders. We skipped calves today to save some time. I have a dentist appointment this afternoon so we’re trying to get to work as early as possible.

6:30 – I have my post-workout shake and rice cakes in the lobby of the gym and chat with the girl working the desk before heading home.

6:45 – 7:15 – Get ready for work and deal with the dogs. We bring them up to eat before putting them outside. We also hope they’re quiet enough to stay out the entire time we’re getting ready so they get some energy out (and leave us alone…). Sometimes they’re jerks and bark too much for that. Usually Kyle is ready before me so he puts our food into our lunch bags (our meals are packed the night before to make this faster).

7:15 – Leave for work as soon as possible. We make a stop at Tim Horton’s so I can get a tea. We usually go inside because I like the girls who work there and we like to look at the donuts.

7:45 / 8 – Get to work and check my emails.

8:30 – Eat meal #2 (egg whites and oatmeal with blueberries).

8:45 – Finish a task I had left partially done on Wednesday – cleaning up some webpage folders and files, I know, it’s pretty wild.

9:30 – Weekly touch-base meeting with my manager to go through any issues or problems, status updates, and budgeting for the end of the year.

10 – 11:30 – Get some work done… email people, return some phone calls, figure out some ordering / purchasing issues.

11:30 – Eat meal #3 (chicken and rice with veggies).

12 – 2:15 – Do more work… read some things, write some things, edit other things, give Kyle five million things to design, etc.

2:15 – Eat meal #4 (chicken meatballs and sweet potato).

2:45 – Head to the dentist. I have an irrational fear of the dentist and dread going… but it was just a regular cleaning and it wasn’t so bad.

4:30 – Stop at Bulk Barn for baking supplies, and Walmart for a few grocery items before heading home.

5:00 – Get home and eat meal #5 (Kyle prepared a giant salad with ground turkey and a small wrap).

5:30 – We had to do a little food prep tonight to pack up for the weekend. We’re heading up to Mississauga tomorrow afternoon to watch an OPA competition and attend a seminar with Nicole Wilkins. I broiled a big tray of cauliflower (which I had bought earlier in the week and forgot about), and baked my apple cinnamon recipe as a loaf instead of cookies. Packed up meals for the next 3 days and did laundry.

7:30 – Eat meal #6 (egg whites with half a chopped banana and some Walden Farms caramel sauce).

8:00 – Relax on the couch for a bit and watch Million Dollar Critic (I’ve developed a large crush on Giles). I regret sitting down now, as it’s hard to get up when you’re covered with dogs… and the effect of getting up at 4am starts to hit.

9:00 – Fold the laundry and separate some stuff to pack. We’re looking forward to training at our favorite gym (EVO in Guelph) on our way up, and then we’ll go to a GoodLife on Saturday so we don’t miss any workouts. This generally means a lot of packing… gym clothes, casual clothes, nice clothes for dinner outings, etc.

9:30 – Work on this blog post with the dogs curled up beside me.

10:00 – Eat meal #7 (casein protein mixed with Greek yogurt and frozen to be “ice cream”). This is a highlight for me, it’s so good. I’ll mix in a little peanut butter, jam, and/or Cool Whip.

10:30 – BED TIME!

I hope you all had a great Thursday, enjoy Friday and the weekend.  I’ll be sure to make some good notes at the seminar on Sunday, and take plenty of pictures throughout the weekend. XO!
