Grocery Shopping

Happy Friday everyone!

In light of the fact that it’s the end of the week and most people will be heading to the grocery store in the next couple of days, I thought this was timely – our shopping list!

A few quick facts though, 1) We’re I’m still in the off-season, so there’s more food variety. 2) We’re pretty boring when it comes to food and seriously buy 99% the exact same things every week – but will make different things out of it. 3) We shop almost exclusively at Costco and a produce market.

Protein

  • egg whites
  • whole eggs
  • chicken breasts
  • ground turkey
  • white fish (usually sole)
  • tuna (canned in water)
  • flank steak

Carbs

  • instant oats
  • basmati rice
  • sweet potatoes
  • Ezekiel bread
  • whole wheat wraps

Veggies & fruit

  • container of spring mix or 50/50 salad mix
  • broccoli
  • red onion
  • mini cucumbers (because one is the perfect amount per lunch salad for me)
  • red pepper
  • bananas
  • frozen fruit (blueberries or raspberries usually)

Misc

  • Greek yogurt
  • cottage cheese
  • hot sauce
  • salsa
  • cinnamon
  • Kraft natural peanut butter
  • no sugar added jam
  • salad dressing (balsamic vinegar usually)
  • plain rice cakes

That’s about it I think…. as I look in the fridge to check. Yup! Now, don’t get me wrong, sometimes there are additional purchases if I feel like making something specific or baking something.  But, this list represents our staple items that always need to be in the house (we don’t buy all of these every week – I don’t eat THAT much peanut butter!). We also supplement this by allowing a “cheat meal” once a week at this point – usually on Saturday nights as extra fuel for leg day on Sunday 😉  It’s all about planning & strategy!

Happy shopping & have a terrific weekend – we’re going back to the construction zone that is our new house…. wish us luck.
