Shoulders, Step, and a table saw

Hope everyone had a great weekend.  Ours was pretty busy, as usual – why are they so short??  I’m determined to not get sick again, and need to get my workouts back on track, so we had to get to the gym early on Saturday to train shoulders before a Step class I was covering.

I was under a time crunch, so my plan got a slightly altered / compacted, but it was a good workout:

  • 4 sets cable side lateral raises (plus 3 warm-up sets)
  • 4 sets smith machine shoulder press
  • 4 sets rear delt cable fly
  • 4 sets dumbbell lateral raises (last set a drop set x3)

While I can make it through a training session just fine, my cardio has taken a big hit from the flu / chest cold, so Step class kicked my butt (literally). It’ll be awhile before I’m back to normal, but it’ll come.  It doesn’t help that my cardio sessions have been greatly cut back from where I used to be, so everything is a shock to my system now.  Why? Because my off season goal was to put on as much muscle as possible, I didn’t want to be burning through calories at the rate I was. So, with the exception of the classes I teach, I haven’t done cardio since September… which is crazy to me. My classes have helped me to stay reasonably lean, and the surplus of calories have given me the energy to build muscle (hopefully).

As a non-fitness related topic, a highlight of our Saturday was buying a table saw. Yup. We lead an exciting life.  With the possession date to our new house quickly approaching, we’re getting everything ready to start the major renovation. Kitchen appliances and flooring have been ordered, and now we’re shopping for good deals on tools. Truth – I know NOTHING about home renovations beyond the hours and hours of reality TV shows we watch, so this is all a learning experience to me.  Kyle’s been through all this before, and loves it, so he’s leading the way.  Our storage locker is quickly filling up with tools!

We’re trying to fill our time with activities that keep us out of our apartment because we go stir crazy, so we had a bowling date – a date that’s been two years in the making. I once made a comment about being an oddly good bowler, and that I could beat Kyle, which obviously lead to random competitive comments. It somehow took until now to actually go bowling, and well, let’s just say someone won all three games…. and their name is not Kyle.
